About Me

Hello and welcome to Flavor Adventures! I started this blog as a means to showcase some of my favorite food discoveries. I’m Dorothy, a typical girl in her twenties who is obsessed with food. When faced with the dreaded small talk question of “So what do you like to do in your free time?” my mind races between thoughts of “What DO I like to do? How do people get hobbies? Is eating considered a hobby?” Needless to say, I would put eating, cooking, talking about food, looking up recipes, and dining out as some of my favorite things to do. Yes I do other things too (note: need to research hobbies for adults), but food is my passion.  It is not unusual for me to be found nibbling on something at all hours of the day. I think grocery shopping is therapeutic. I get really excited over farmers markets. I’m a really messy cook because I’m having way too much fun. I spend the majority of my day thinking about what I’m going to eat next and the rest of it thinking of my next cooking project or must-visit location.

Here is where I chronicle all the new tastes and experiences I come across, whether in my own kitchen or across the world. I love to travel, and have also spent the last few years moving from city to city around the states. I moved to Bellevue, WA right after graduating from college in Boston, where I spent the majority of my time at my first post-grad job in the hospitality business. I had lots of exposure to delicious food and plenty of time to play chef in my kitchen. I made another big move across the country to New York a year later, living in a small town north of Manhattan called Tuxedo where I gave up the luxurious living of a normal apartment in exchange for living rent and utility free in an employee dorm provided by my boyfriend’s employer. My commute was an hour and a half one way, but I loved my new job working for a food product company, and I was happy to escape Manhattan every day for my tree-filled oasis in upstate. My boyfriend, Cody, and I did a decent job putting together our own space, complete with hot plate/griddle, microwave and mini fridges, but there were no fresh baked cookies and very little home cooking.

Most recently, Cody and I made the cross country drive back to my hometown of Portland, OR where we’re living in our first REAL apartment together (read: it not only has a kitchen, but our own bathroom and an actual bedroom door). It’s been wonderful being back, it’s fun to explore the city that is so different now than when I left after high school, and I am obsessed with having an oven again.

I hope you enjoy following me around as I explore my city!
